Well, the metal lathe finally gave it up
« on: April 01, 2010, 06:48:46 PM »
I bought a Cummins Mini Metal lathe about 2.5 years ago.. added a bigger chuck and a quick change tool post, and ran it into the ground.  I used it to round stock, turn tenons, and for a world of other things. I was able to prep out band tenon ODs bore, and alot of other great stuff... Man they are a bonus in a callmaking shop. However not designed for day in and day out use.. I went through, 4 sets of gears, 2 sets of roller bearings, 2 motherboards, 2 fuse holders, and the last thing was the potentiometer.  That was the last draw.... Its not rigid enough to really turn or shape metal, but they work wonders on acrylic and stuff..  And just when I was making some headway on getting this BIZ back in black!!! IF anyone has one and they need some parts or a bigger chuck or tool post.. I will help you out...
cause I got this one comin... Once you have one, you can never go back to living without it..
With DIGITAL READ OUT of course... HEHEHEHEHEHEHE

That is a nice one you have on the way.  I like my old Atlas, 1972 model 6x18, it is a little more manually operated than my Cummins like yours but a heavier and better setup.

If you sell the quick change tool post set up let me know the price, extras and condition I might be interested.

Looks like a nice new toy. I've kicked around a bigger lathe and wish I had one. The small ones are just junk... I may have to upgrade some day as well. How much does that thing weigh??

Youre going to LOVE the DRO once you learn to use it - its probably a Sino, which has some cool features, but is kind of hard to learn...  Lord knows Im still trying to understand some of the wording in the manual.
