Latest information and question from Stumpy:

I originally had the lady quote me on 20,000 pcs and it was really high dollar around 50000.00 and I couldn't swing that amount right now, but I had her requote it and send me some samples, it does make a great call, but my question to you guys is, if I order 5000 pcs and it drives the price up $.50 to 4.00 how many takers do I have and how many pcs do each one of you want.
The samples I got are 3.42 to 3.44 they do vary in sizes some but not to a large degree.
it will take 8 weeks to get this material so tell your friends and let me know.
feel free to call me and I will run some calls made from the ceramic
Thanks
Stumpy

(He also commented that this is the exact same material the box store calls are using, and I'm telling you, that stuff is AWESOME! )

I sent an e-mail of my interest in purchasing some of the pieces. One heck of a commitment though to purchase some disc though.

Yep!  That's what I did!  Ordered both at the same time!  Figured my shipping was already going to be maxed out on the other, so why not throw in some glass too?!

Do you call him or just email the order? I sent a pm on cco telling him again that I wanted 10 pieces. I also included my email and phone number. Do you think that is good enough or should I email him? Thanks

A PM on CCO is just as good as email.  I would NOT send him both, because you will just muddy the water.

Just my .02.

I know this post is from 2010, but do any of y'all know where to get some of this? And what are y'all calling it? Thanks!!

It is just simply being known as "ceramic" in the custom call making world.

I talked with Will Primos about us custom call makers using it this past weekend, and he didn't bat an eye about it.  I told him I called it ceramic and understood he called it Sla-tec or something of the sorts and his immediate response to that was, "It is an awesome surface, isn't it?!  It makes a great call."

Some places you can pick it up......from Chad Hutcheson (Stumpy) as said in the beginning of this thread.  You can also order it from call making suppliers like Brookside Game Calls, and Grassy Creek Game Calls (though last I heard about Grassy Creek on here, someone was having problems getting a hold of Darin).

I set up my calls to be set over double weight glass, and some others to be set over slate to where both sides of the call can be played.

Some folks say they can't get it to work the way they want.....it is too high pitched.

I would highly suggest, if you are just starting out, to make your calls slate over glass, and get the slate to run VERY well before spending money on tricky combinations or more expensive surfaces.
