Pecan (Call pic added!)
« on: July 09, 2009, 09:56:50 AM »
I'm looking for a stick (1 1/2" square x 4"+) of Pecan. The more figured up the better of course. I'll tell a little story of why.

My dad lives in a pretty nice subdivision and planted a Pecan tree when I was a kid. This tree (after several years) started bearing pecans. My dad is a very big fan of pecans. Well the neighborhood squirrels are to LOL! He's been fighting the squirrels for pecans for the past at least 5 years. They of course are winning. He's got a RWS pellet rifle and this year (last count I heard) he's shot 40 of 'em. Now this has become a bit of a family joke. I pull in the driveway to visit I go in and ask why he's not doing anything about the squirrels I saw in his tree. He'll run and look at the tree about every time. Anyway I'm wanting to put together a squirrel call for him from pecan wood. I know that'll make his day!   Thanks
Brad

I've got some pecan but it is 4/4 thickness.  You'd have to laminate two pieces together, perhaps with a contrasting wood strip like walnut in the middle.

Funny story for sure!

If ya still can't find any with the other guys, give me a holler. Have some that was cut into blanks over a year ago. I've made a couple from it recently and 10 from it this last duck season for duck camp.

THANKS GUYS!!! It is hilarious.... I love it Al! I'll try to do it like a pecan for sure! (only one he'll see   )!!! He's a real good sport about it. To see a 77 yr old man out with his BB gun on patrol..    He's taken the screen off a window on his back porch... snipe's 'em from in there. LOL  I wish he'd cook some up... I'd tell  him they taste like pecan pie! (his favorite) Last year he quit shooting them and didn't get a single pecan. Said he'd wounded one and felt guilty. There's been no mercy for 'em this year!

Thanks Robert A.! I'll shoot you a pm! I really appreciate it!

Thanks Heirloom! I'll shoot you a pm too but 1 stick should be plenty!

Edited because you posted while I was typing!  Thanks David I'll sure keep you in mind!
