How do you seat them in the call? Are they a press fit or do you use O rigns, either external or internal?

Thanks

I am definately not an expert, but the ones I have used it is just a press in fit. They seem to fit pretty snug, and with a double lanyard, the press in fit isn't a problem. Looking forward to the answers of the others.

I press fit them.  On my own inserts I usually use what I call a "cork" friction fit, cut the cork a very little to big and the cork provides enough fit to keep it in place.

Al, with the duck inserts I just make a 5/8" bore and press them in. Thats all I have been using with my duck calls and have no problem with them at all, and they sound great ................. Alvin

When I used them I noticed that the Open water inserts were a slightly different size than the Timber inserts.  I drilled a hole slightly smaller than 5/8" and then sanded out to get a proper fit.

Friction fit, but there is not a lot of taper so it's still got to be the right size bore. 5/8 after all is said and done (drying, finishing etc)

I originally turned an o-ring groove into my inserts because I was using a loose 5/8" bit.

Then, I had this guy named Al send me a 5/8" bit that wouldnt' fit into his drilling plans, and I've been turning tight friction-fitting duck calls ever since.

Open water inserts are JUST slightly smaller than timber inserts when it comes to friction fitting.

My customers have been happy with the friction fit, and I have heard of no cracked barrels or anything like that.

The inserts also have a groove cut into them for the double lanyard like Braz was talking about.

I remember that bit LOL.   Forgot all about that one.   I should have checked the shank size before I ordered it ;)   Lesson learned.   Glad it worked out for you thogh.

Thanks for the help you guys.  I was wondering how you all did it.  I might make one for my auto mechanic.  He's a duck hunter and I have to get the truck inspected at the end of the month.  Always nice to bribe them a little bit.,  It wont help. but I'll think it did and that's what's important.

I highly recommend the timber inserts. I still use them in some of my banquet calls, as they have a great meat sound and are very affordable. I usually have to sand the hole a bit to fit the insert to where I like it depth wise, but it's well worth it. Can't beat a tuned insert for $6. Holler if I can help.

Call Rick Dunn at Echo Calls and tell him that you want to buy some inserts. Thier number is listed on thier website.
