Lil suprise when I got home today

So I walked in the door from a long week of work.  Which isn't quite over yet.  I have to go back in tonight at 12:00 am to teach a safety class.  Then it will be done...Maybe...

But, anyways I walk in the door and see a package from my dad, I was pretty excited.  I opened it up to see what little treasures he might have for me.

From left to right.  Desert Ironwood, Curly and birdseye maple, Old osage and even older osage, zebrawood, tulip wood, bocote and center front is a piece of cross cut pastachio (this one has me wanting to go out to the garage right now)...

Back to the piece of ironwood pictured, it definately has character and its worth making something out of.
judging by the growth rings in every piece of it I've seen, it takes a very long time to make a piece big enough for a call.
It may not be sound enough for a goose call but may be big enough for a predator squeeker or whistle.

Yeah you were too Jon.  I got about four whistles' worth out of that little log.  But I meant that Crookedneck might have allegedly sent me some ironwood once or twice.

I have found out that KC likes Ironwood.  He is addicted to the stuff.  I string him out sending him a piece or two at a time.  When he gets the shakes I send him some Ironwood saw dust to smell.  Settles him down for a month or two.  But, seriously KC this piece is set aside, for the next package I send you.

Any of you guys need a piece or two of Ironwood.  Hit up Grinder on here.  That is my Dad.  He usually has a good supply of Ironwood as he uses it for knife handles.  If he has any spare I'm sure he wood  sell a piece or two.
