I am not aware of a tutorial at this point.  I can give you a suggestion, though.  The first (and only 1 of 2) woodies calls i ever "made", and are still in use, might be considered cheating a bit  :nono:   lol   I went to the pet store, and bought a pack of two squeakers (not the actual toy, but the part that would go into the toy).   it has a small reed and a band holding it, surrounded by a small tube.  this was inserted into the part the dog squeezes, like a little plastic ballon.  Remove that part, and take a 1/2" toneboard with the 1/4" channel, cut in half, then place those halves around the little plastic tube (to hold it into the call).  place into an exhaust (with the 1/2" hole) and voila.  It might take adjusting the band around the reed a little bit to get the sound you want, but it works those early morning woodies in catahoula lake quite nicely, most of the time  lol   My uncle actually has a woodie call made similar to the pattern of duck call we make, with a full length single reed, toneboard and all, but it's 200+ miles away so i cant look at it.  Even though he uses that with success, i still prefer the ease of the other, works just as well  :hammer:  Stubborn me.

There is really no secret to it if you use a JC Products reed....sold as a woodie or hawk reed. They look different than any of the others because they have a lot of plastic on them to shorten up the routine sized metal reed they use on their guts.

Just get a reed sleeve, and set it up from there, or, the way I prefer, is to use a 1/2" rubber bushing and turn a 1/2" holed barrel 2 1/2 to 3 1/2" long.

I like to put the reed in the barrel about an inch from the moth end.

Then use one or two hands to cup the end of the call for back pressure and say DOOOOOO (take away back pressure) WEEEEEEEE into the call.

Another way to run it is to growl into the call like you are running a goose call and say the DOOOOOWEEEE.

The call WORKS.

Here it is made from my mallard tone board jig

From the back of the cork notch to the end of the tone channel is 1/2". I used a 1/4" drill bit. bend the tip of the reed up so it doesn't lock up and the reed is just at the end of the tone channel.

  Larry, it doesn't look like a guy would even need the last 3/4" of that toneboard?  Any thoughts on that?

I also cut them off, and then round the end on a drum sander.  It takes a few seconds to hit the drum sander and they look better.  Makes it look like the front end of an LA board.
