Travelin' duck call
« on: September 15, 2011, 11:07:52 PM »
I got this idea from the WorkingDecoys forum. Last year someone on there made a foam Canvasback decoy named Barney. They got together a list of hunters, starting with the guy that lived furthest north. The decoy was sent to each hunter in turn, making it's way south as the season progressed. Most everyone got a chance to hunt with the decoy, take pictures of the decoy doing it's thing and post them up along with a short story of the hunt.

So my thought was that maybe we could do that with a duck call. The call would be returned (along with lot's of memories) to it's maker at the end of the season, but we would all be able to participate vicariously in the hunt as the migration moves south.

In light of a recent event, I would like to nominate one of Crawdad's 'Fat Lady' calls to be the honorary first participant in what will hopefully be an annual event  :2up:

Any thoughts, ideas? I think that this would be a very enjoyable hunt to follow, so jump on in and add your  :2:

I think that's a cool idea.     It would also be neat to leave the call unfinished so everyone could sign their name on it.

Good idea to use a fat lady.

Well thank you Goose, I am honored  to have the privilege to do that. Just let me know what I have to do next & when, K.C, if I am to leave it unfinished, I will make it out of Osage, also I believe you can get more signatures on my Fat Lady. Man this is the neatest idea, thanks again goose.

Awesome idea, count me in!  I've heard of this idea before with a "traveling trap" but because of different state's regulations, it was kinda tough to do.  This is a great idea!!

Great idea guys. If I was a duck hunter you could bet I would be getting my name on that list. I will be looking forward to seeing pics and reading the stories.

Osage would be a great idea for a call to sign Crawdad.  So Crawdad, get it made up and sign it.   In the meantime guys, if you want it this season, check in on this thread.  We'll try to figure out a good system of getting it from man to man to man so that it can do a lot of traveling this season.

I'd happily take it at the end of the season and could put a CA finish over all the signatures before sending it back to Crawdad (or giving it back to him in mid January at the turn-a-thon).

What about at the end of the travelin you send the call to Al.  If it was not for him starting this site and running it the way he does we would not have this forum to learn from.  Every year someone different could make the call.  If it goes well maybe we could do it for a kinds of different calls.  It would be a way everyone here could show a little appreciation to Al.

Thanks Shane

Al get's it as far as i'm concerned. Ya'll just tell me who to send it to first, it will be ready tomorrow. I sure hate to put an echo insert in it, anyone willing to make a osage insert for it, or would you rather have the echo?
